As part of Skillful’s Coaching Initiative, the Skillful team launched the Governor’s Coaching Corps, an intensive, eight-month leadership and skills development program for 28 Colorado career coaches, in October of last year.
Today, we’re thrilled to announce its sister program, the Skillful Coaching Community of Practice, and encourage those who are eligible* to apply.
The Skillful Coaching Community of Practice will provide a virtual support network for Colorado career coaches to build their coaching skills, share resources and content with their peers, and discuss how to best serve job seekers. Skillful will also use the Coaching Community of Practice to host webinars and topic-specific, peer-led calls.
The Skillful Coaching Community of Practice is intended to provide coaches with a supportive environment in which they can learn from one another and, ultimately, better serve skilled job seekers who may struggle to find a rewarding career in today’s rapidly changing economy. Coaches in rural areas and coaches with limited professional development resources will especially benefit from the virtual nature of the community.
Skillful's Coaching Community of Practice comes at a time when Americans fear the impact of automation on their jobs. Their uncertainty is not unwarranted: “While there may be enough work to maintain full employment to 2030 under most scenarios, the transitions will be very challenging—matching or even exceeding the scale of shifts out of agriculture and manufacturing we have seen in the past,” a recent report from the McKinsey Global Institutestates. In order to manage these transitions, Americans will need more than digital tools—they’ll need the encouragement, the guidance, and support of another human.
*To join the Skillful Coaching Community of Practice, you must be a career coach and a Colorado resident. This program is not intended to serve for-profit career and life coaches. Career coaches from education, workforce development, nonprofits, and other frontline professionals are encouraged to join.
